  3. On-site evaluations of the light and sound levels that staff and patients experience in the emergency department informed a number of design options likely to significantly improve care environments for patients and staff.


  4. Areas in greatest need of design intervention were objectively identified during on-site observations and sensory logging of light, sound, and workflow.


  5. Collaboration with Arup acousticians and Krahe Lighting specialists led to design options and cost-benefit analysis to minimize sound distribution, enhance speech intelligibility, and support visual acuity and circadian lighting needs.
